About Who We Help
Microloans are typically awarded to mothers or guardians of families, who will begin a small business to support themselves and their dependents. Coaching in business skills is supplied by the agency, and the loan is eventually repaid, supplying resources for new loans for the community. As the original loan recipient grows her business and she becomes independent, she will then act as a mentor for other members of her community, to encourage their business skills and provide support. Check out this great system, for instance, at Opportunity International. They are known for their innovative and successful community programs, strong mentoring support, and highly efficient use of donations. Please see their website at www.opportunity.org
